Men's Jacket BUCO J-21R COGNAC

Produktbeskrivning

The J-21R in cognac Cow Vintage leather: an American motorcycle jacket with a warm, luminous tone.

The J-21R takes up the characteristic lines of the historic Buco J-21: asymmetric fastening, motorcycle collar, D-Pocket, Coin Pocket, shoulder panels and action pleats at the back. A construction built for the road, faithful to the codes of the American motorcycle jacket as it established itself in the 1940s and 1950s. The Cow Vintage leather chosen for this model - a cowhide with a specific finish, 0.8 to 0.9 mm thick - delivers a pronounced visual depth and a subtle satin sheen. In cognac, this material reveals its most luminous side: a golden caramel tone, warm and direct, that catches the light and brings out the grain of the leather with an intensity that darker colourways simply cannot match. The Dull Silver metal hardware stands out clearly against it - a pronounced contrast, without overpowering.

Buco's codes, unchanged since the original J-21.

Beneath the tone, the construction is that of the historic J-21, taken up point by point. The D-Pocket, an angled zip pocket on the chest, is one of the most consistent markers of the Buco range: it comes directly from American work jackets and has never left the model. The Coin Pocket, a small change pocket set into the front, is its natural companion. At the back, the Pillion / Map Pockets - two zip openings inherited from the original constructions - originally served a dual purpose: carrying a road map flat against the back, and allowing the pillion passenger to slip their hands inside the jacket to keep warm while riding. The press-stud belt loops secure a belt in place. Shoulder panels and action pleats ensure freedom of movement in the saddle. Inside, the body lining in 100 % cotton checked flannel - red and beige, particularly striking against this lighter colourway - delivers the thermal comfort expected in mid-season. The polyester sleeve lining makes the jacket easy to pull on. An interior zip pocket completes the construction.

Detroit, Michigan. Buco, since 1933.

The Buegeleisen Company was founded in Detroit in 1933 by Joseph Buegeleisen - Buco is the contraction of the name. Originally a motorcycle accessories manufacturer, the brand began producing leather jackets in the 1940s, made entirely in-house. Within a decade, it established itself as the essential reference of the American motorcycle jacket. Its models equipped generations of riders, flat-track and drag strip racers, before becoming sought-after collector's pieces worldwide.

Detroit, Michigan. Industry, the open road, performance, risk - that is the world in which Buco built its authority. Not a reconstructed legend: a history that continues. The J-21R in cognac is its most luminous expression - the same construction codes, the same demands placed on the material, in a tone that belongs to this colourway alone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose my size for the J-21R?

The J-21R has a generous American cut. It is recommended to size down from your usual size for the correct fit. If in doubt between two sizes, go for the smaller one.

How does the cognac colourway develop over time?

On Cow Vintage leather in cognac, the patina develops progressively and subtly: the zones of tension - elbows, shoulders, wrists - lighten slightly and gain in sheen, while the creases retain a deeper tone. The change is less contrasted than on the brown, but gives every piece a natural ageing that strengthens its character over the years.

What are the D-Pocket and the Coin Pocket?

The D-Pocket is an angled zip pocket on the chest, one of the most recognisable codes of historic Buco models, inherited directly from American work jackets. The Coin Pocket is a small change pocket integrated into the front of the jacket, a functional detail taken from the original constructions. These two elements are part of the construction DNA of the J-21 - they are not there for effect.

What are the Pillion / Map Pockets?

The Pillion / Map Pockets are two zip openings at the back of the jacket, one of the most characteristic functional details in Buco's history. They originally served two purposes: allowing the rider to carry a road map flat against their back, and giving the pillion passenger a way to slip their hands inside the jacket to keep warm while riding. A construction detail rooted in real use, which the J-21R perpetuates unchanged.

Is this jacket suitable for everyday motorcycle use?

The J-21R is a motorcycle jacket in the historical sense of the term - built for the road, with construction details that confirm it: shoulder panels, action pleats at the back, Pillion / Map Pockets, press-stud belt loops. It does not include CE-approved armour. For sporting use or on a track, approved protective equipment remains recommended.

How do I care for this jacket?

A quick wipe with a slightly damp cloth is enough for surface marks. A nourishing smooth leather cream, applied once or twice a year, preserves the suppleness of the material and maintains its natural patina. On a lighter colourway like cognac, it is advisable to test the cream on a small, discreet area first to ensure it does not alter the tone. Avoid prolonged exposure to rain or direct sunlight.

What sets the cognac colourway apart from the other J-21R colours?

Cognac is the warmest and most luminous colourway in the J-21R range. Its golden caramel tone brings out the grain of the Cow Vintage leather particularly well and accentuates the contrast with the Dull Silver hardware. Compared to brown, it is lighter and more direct - its natural patina will be less visually pronounced, but just as real. Black, meanwhile, plays on an opposite register: depth, restraint, contrast between dark leather and metal.
