A belt that gives you two coats

The belt with its metal buckle is the defining element of this version of the Leoniz. Cinched, it defines the waist and creates the characteristic drape of a belted coat, with a hem that opens out in a corolla shape over the hips. Detached or simply tied, it allows the coat to fall straight from the shoulders to the hem. These are two very different silhouettes achieved with the same garment, which is what makes this type of construction so enduring in a woman's wardrobe.

A taupe that belongs to the history of the style

Greyish brown is the traditional colour for this type of coat, and it suits it for a specific reason: on a long garment, a neutral, tempered tone avoids the bulky effect created by black, while remaining sufficiently understated for everyday wear. The shade changes with the light, leaning towards grey in cool light and towards brown in warm light, and pairs well with ecru, browns and khakis. It is one of the few shades that does not date a long garment.

Contrasting-free finishes

Trench coat inspiration, tone-on-tone buttons, pocket flaps without visible topstitching: nothing interrupts the surface of the leather, and only the belt buckle provides a metallic accent. This restraint is what allows the coat to move through the seasons without looking dated. The soft, lightweight lambskin gives the hem the necessary movement — on a belted garment, rigid leather would prevent the drape from forming properly beneath the belt.

The company was founded in 1972 by Jürgen Raberg under the name Raberg Ledermoden, before becoming Gipsy and then, for its fiftieth anniversary, Mauritius. This change of name accompanied the consolidation of its various lines under a single identity. Today managed by Katrin and Christian Raberg, it distributes its leather clothing collections in more than fifty countries. Its former name remains associated with decades of leather jackets in the European market.
