Leoniz borrows its design language from the classic coat: trench collar, single-breasted fastening, and a mid-length cut falling below the hips. Transposed into lambskin rather than wool cloth, this construction offers two advantages. The first is its structure — the leather preserves the line of the lapels and the drape of the front without the help of a thick inner canvas. The second is its performance against the wind, which a continuous surface blocks where cloth allows it to filter through between its fibres.
The sleeve ends are adjusted with buttoned tabs, a detail borrowed from the tailored coat. Their usefulness is twofold: they allow the opening to be adjusted over knitwear, and they create a horizontal line that balances the verticality imposed by a long garment. On a black leather coat, where few elements catch the light, these tabs are one of the few construction details visible from a distance. Together with the lapels, they recall that the piece belongs to the tailored wardrobe.
The length and collar clearly place this coat on the dressier side: it can be worn over suit trousers, a dress, or a straight skirt, and works in a professional setting. The leather gives it a structure that cloth does not have, while avoiding a rigid effect thanks to the suppleness of the lambskin — on a long piece, thick leather would create an armour-like silhouette and a weight that would be difficult to wear all day. The coat therefore retains the rigour of the shape without the heaviness.
Jürgen Raberg founded Raberg Ledermoden in 1972 and dedicated the company to leather clothing, a direction it has never strayed from. Renamed Gipsy, then Mauritius on its fiftieth anniversary, the house has passed through several generations of leather clothing without changing its field. Katrin and Christian Raberg took over its management after their father. The house works for its own brands as well as for third-party labels, which explains the breadth of its catalogue.
This product is made of lambskin. It is the most supple skin among the different types of leather. It is fine, soft and light, and is very easy to maintain!
The only maintenance necessary is waterproofing the material, this should be planned before the first wear of your product and regularly following the frequency with which you wear the product (if you wear it every day in rainy weather, you can repeat it up to once every one to two weeks).
