Taupe brings out the embroidery

On this version of the Mabou, the embroidered floral motifs remain tone-on-tone, but the shade changes everything: on taupe, the light catches the thread much more distinctly than on black, and the design becomes readable without any color contrast coming into play. It is the best compromise in the range — visible embroidery that gives the piece its value, yet never looks showy. The choice of color is therefore not simply a variation; it changes the way the ornament is perceived.

A greyish brown that acts as a neutral

Taupe leans towards grey in cool light and towards brown in warm light, making it easy to use as a base in a wardrobe. It brings a warmth that grey lacks, without the directness of brown. It works well with ecru, brown, khaki and light denim, and is a shade that pairs particularly well with the natural tones of an autumn outfit.

A construction that leaves room for the detail

Snap-button stand-up collar, centered straight zip, two zipped pockets, waist-length cut: the foundation remains simple so that the embroidery can be seen. A more structured jacket would overshadow the threadwork. The soft, lightweight lambskin keeps the embroidered areas supple as you move, and the cropped cut leaves the waist clear, working just as well with high-waisted trousers as with a skirt.

Mauritius, fifty years of leather clothing

The company was founded in 1972 under the name Raberg Ledermoden by Jürgen Raberg, with a sole specialty — leather clothing. It grew under the name Gipsy before adopting Mauritius on its fiftieth anniversary, a change that brought previously distinct lines together under one signature. The company is now run by Katrin and Christian Raberg, the second generation of the founding family. Its collections are distributed in more than fifty countries, and the company produces for both its own brands and third-party labels.
