Ivory, a bold choice

The concealed fastening of the Eliz truly comes into its own on light-coloured leather: the front becomes a continuous surface interrupted by nothing—not a zip, a button or a contrast. It is the most pared-back design in the women's collection, and the colour enhances its effect rather than softening it. Ivory leather leaves no room for error, either—any slight irregularity in the hide or construction would be visible across such a bare expanse, with no element to divert the eye.

Structure achieved through the cut

A drawstring waist, gathered cuffs and a slightly raised collar: everything that gives the jacket its shape comes from the pattern and flexible elements. No metal components are involved, which is rare for a leather garment and explains this model's distinctive look. The result falls into the city jacket category, wearable with a dress or trousers, and far removed from the style associated with the majority of leather jackets.

A light-coloured piece that structures the outfit

An ecru leather garment does not blend into a silhouette: it becomes its light focal point, and everything else benefits from remaining dark or neutral. The advantage is that it brightens a winter outfit just as much as a summer outfit, without belonging to any particular season. Soft and lightweight lambskin gives the jacket the fluid drape this construction requires—a thicker hide would make the gathering heavy and the fastening tab stiff.

A specialisation never abandoned

Since its foundation in 1972 by Jürgen Raberg, the house that became Mauritius has worked with just one main material, leather, and one category, clothing. Its change of name, from the historic Gipsy to the current Mauritius, marked its fiftieth anniversary. Katrin and Christian Raberg now run the family business. This focus on a single trade explains the breadth of the collections, which cover jackets, coats and overcoats within the same season.
