Perforations placed at the points of articulation

The Broum perforates its leather exactly where the jacket is most flexible: the shoulders and elbows. This choice comes from racing gear, where these ventilated panels allowed air to circulate in the areas most exposed to heat. On this model, the perforation creates two visible effects. It creates a dotted texture in the middle of a solid surface, outlining the panels and making the cut easy to read from a distance. It also lightens the garment at the points of articulation, where layers of leather would usually overlap.

Cognac, the ideal base for perforation

On light-colored leather, each perforation opens up a dark point: the pattern stands out clearly, whereas it is barely noticeable on black. This contrast is what justifies the color on this particular model. However, it requires an even hide with no surface defects, so that the edges of the perforations remain sharp across all the panels. The warm brown pairs well with cool-toned basics — raw denim, gray, off-white — and is toned down when worn alongside another brown.

An in-between-season piece, and proudly so

A perforated jacket does not block the wind at the shoulders: it is designed for spring and fall, not for facing the cold. This limitation is the direct trade-off for what makes it appealing. The regular cut, ending at the waist, leaves room for a shirt or a lightweight sweatshirt, while the snap-button stand-up collar can be raised when the weather turns. The supple, lightweight lambskin creates a jacket that drapes properly from the very first outing.

The Mauritius name

Adopted for the brand's fiftieth anniversary, the name Mauritius replaced Gipsy, the name under which the company founded in 1972 by Jürgen Raberg became known. The business itself has not changed: leather clothing, from cropped jackets to coats. The company has moved into its second generation, in the hands of Katrin and Christian Raberg. Its collections are now distributed in more than fifty countries.
