Shoulder topstitching as a design element

On the GMBrody, the structure of the torso does not come from quilting or an added panel, but from visible topstitching crossing the shoulders. The thread creates a regular line in otherwise smooth leather, without adding material or thickness. The result is subtler than a quilted relief and is most noticeable in profile, when the light skims across the surface. It is the jacket's only graphic element, and it is enough to keep it from being a neutral piece. The rest follows the same logic: no added panels or color contrasts interrupt the continuity of the leather.

A brown so dark it takes the place of black

The shade is a deep brown, almost black in low light, revealing its warm undertone only in daylight. This color choice solves a common problem: achieving the versatility of a black jacket without its harshness around the face. The leather has a smooth finish, with no visible grain, allowing the color to appear as a continuous surface and making the topstitching stand out all the more. In practice, the jacket works anywhere a black model would, with a little more warmth near the face.

A short, closed construction

The stand-up collar is kept raised by a snap button, the centered straight zip closes the front all the way up, and two low zip pockets remain easy to use while walking. The length stops at the waist. The supple, lightweight lambskin creates a jacket that folds, rolls up and can be worn without the stiffness associated with thick hides during the first few weeks. The two low pockets, positioned on either side of the zip, are the only openings on the front, preserving the clean look of the surface.

A family business specializing in leather

Founded in 1972 under the name Raberg Ledermoden, the company has remained in the hands of the founding family: Katrin and Christian Raberg, Jürgen Raberg's children, now run the business. Its renaming as Mauritius, on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary, replaced the name Gipsy under which it had become known. Leather remains its sole field, from short jackets to long pieces. The group also includes deercraft, a line dedicated to plus sizes with comfortable cuts.
