A color achieved through treatment, not dye alone

The Youvie features a slate blue-grey shade created through a washed finish: the edges and folds are lightened, the hollows remain deep, and the surface is never uniform. The result is a color that cannot be pinned down — bluer in full light, greyer in the shade, and always nuanced from one area of the garment to another. Each piece has its own variations, since the treatment is applied to a natural hide whose structure differs.

A deliberately understated construction

Round collar, centered straight zip, adjustment tabs at the hem: nothing else. This simplicity is essential on a piece whose entire appeal lies in the material; quilting, panels or embroidery would create raised details that would compete with the nuances of the washed finish. The jacket is therefore read as a surface, with the construction serving only to keep that surface in place.

Adjustment tabs to fasten the hem

Two adjustable tabs alter the width across the hips. When tightened, they close the silhouette and prevent air from rising under the jacket; when loosened, they allow the garment to fall straight. This is the only adjustment on the piece, and it is enough to alter its line according to the season. The soft, lightweight lambskin falls properly from the very first outing, without the break-in period required by thicker hides. Two zipped pockets complete a front that otherwise remains entirely bare.

A family-owned company specialising in leather

Founded in 1972 under the name Raberg Ledermoden, the company has remained in the hands of the founding family: Katrin and Christian Raberg, the children of Jürgen Raberg, now run the business. Its renaming as Mauritius on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary replaced the name Gipsy, under which it had become known. Leather remains its sole field, from short jackets to long pieces. The group also includes deercraft, a line dedicated to plus sizes with comfortable cuts.
