A Front Without Visible Fastening

Eliz conceals its fastening beneath a leather placket: seen from the front, the front is a continuous surface, with no visible zip or button. Borrowed from tailored jackets, this technique profoundly changes the way a leather piece is perceived, as it usually relies on the visible presence of its hardware. It also demands precise construction — a poorly positioned placket gapes or ripples, and the flaw immediately catches the eye since there is nothing else to look at on the front of the garment.

An Elegant Powder Pink

The shade is soft, moving it away from bright pink and closer to a light neutral. That is what makes it wearable beyond occasional use: paired with white, ecru, light grey or denim, it behaves like a basic colour. On leather, it requires a hide with perfect consistency, since the slightest difference in dye bath between two panels would be immediately visible on such an uninterrupted surface.

Adjustments Rather Than Fastenings

The waist can be adjusted with a drawstring, the cuffs are gathered, and the collar rises without any visible system: everything that structures the jacket comes from the cut and flexible elements, never from metal. The result is a fluid drape, very far removed from the biker style, and lambskin — supple and lightweight — is the only material that allows this type of construction without stiffness. The jacket follows the body instead of imposing a shape on it, making it a piece you can keep on indoors without feeling it.

The Mauritius Name

Adopted for the company's fiftieth anniversary, the name Mauritius replaced Gipsy, the name under which the company founded in 1972 by Jürgen Raberg had become known. The business itself has not changed: leather clothing, from short jackets to coats. The company has moved into its second generation, in the hands of Katrin and Christian Raberg. Its collections are now distributed in more than fifty countries.
