Men's Jacket BUCO J-21R BROWN

Product Description

Cow Vintage leather at its most expressive.

The J-21R in brown reveals what Cow Vintage leather does best: a depth of tone that resists any uniformity. The brown is not flat - it shifts with the light, with zones of tension, with the creases that build up through wear. This cowhide with its specific finish, 0.8 to 0.9 mm thick, develops a particularly expressive progressive patina on warm tones: the raised areas lighten, the hollows deepen, and the jacket takes on an increasingly defined character with each passing year. The Dull Silver metal hardware follows the same logic - its slightly matte tone does not compete with the leather, it lets it breathe.

Built for the road. Every detail proves it.

The J-21R takes up the construction codes of the historic Buco J-21 point by point. The asymmetric closure and motorcycle collar structure the silhouette - an immediately recognisable line, inherited from American motorcycle jackets of the 1940s and 1950s. The D-Pocket, an angled zip pocket on the chest, is one of the most identifiable markers of the Buco range: it comes directly from American work jackets, carried forward from model to model without its usefulness ever being questioned. The Coin Pocket, a discreet change pocket set into the front, is its natural companion. At the back, the Pillion / Map Pockets - two zip openings inherited from the original constructions - were originally designed to carry a road map flat against the back, and to let the pillion passenger slip their hands inside the jacket to keep warm while riding. The press-stud belt loops secure a belt in place. Shoulder panels and action pleats at the back ensure freedom of movement in the saddle. Inside, the body lining in 100 % cotton checked flannel - red and beige, clearly visible on this open colourway - delivers the thermal comfort expected in mid-season. The sleeves, lined in polyester, pull on without resistance. An interior zip pocket completes the construction.

Detroit, Michigan. Buco, since 1933.

Joseph Buegeleisen founded the Buegeleisen Company in Detroit in 1933 - Buco is the contraction of the name. Initially specialising in motorcycle accessories, the brand moved in the 1940s towards the production of leather jackets, made entirely in-house. Within a decade, its models established themselves as the benchmark of the American motorcycle jacket - worn by generations of riders, flat-track and drag strip racers, before becoming sought-after collector's pieces worldwide.

Detroit, Michigan. Industry, the open road, performance, risk - that is the world in which Buco built its authority. Not a reconstructed legend: a continuous history. The J-21R bears witness to it - the same construction codes, the same demands placed on the material, the same coherence in the details.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose my size for the J-21R?

The J-21R has a generous American cut. It is recommended to size down from your usual size for the correct fit. If in doubt between two sizes, go for the smaller one.

How does the brown colourway develop over time?

This is one of the great strengths of Cow Vintage leather on warm tones: the patina is progressive and visible. The zones of tension - elbows, shoulders, wrists - lighten slightly, while the creases and hollows retain a deeper tone. The contrast between the different areas deepens with the years, giving every piece a unique character that reflects its history of wear.

What are the D-Pocket and the Coin Pocket?

The D-Pocket is an angled zip pocket on the chest, one of the most recognisable codes of historic Buco models, inherited directly from American work jackets. The Coin Pocket is a small change pocket integrated into the front of the jacket, a functional detail taken from the original constructions. These two elements are part of the construction DNA of the J-21 - they are not there for effect.

What are the Pillion / Map Pockets?

The Pillion / Map Pockets are two zip openings at the back of the jacket, one of the most characteristic functional details in Buco's history. They originally served two purposes: allowing the rider to carry a road map flat against their back, and giving the pillion passenger a way to slip their hands inside the jacket to keep warm while riding. A construction detail rooted in real use, which the J-21R perpetuates unchanged.

Is this jacket suitable for everyday motorcycle use?

The J-21R is a motorcycle jacket in the historical sense of the term - built for the road, with construction details that confirm it: shoulder panels, action pleats at the back, Pillion / Map Pockets, press-stud belt loops. It does not include CE-approved armour. For sporting use or on a track, approved protective equipment remains recommended.

How do I care for this jacket?

A quick wipe with a slightly damp cloth is enough for surface marks. A nourishing smooth leather cream, applied once or twice a year, preserves the suppleness of the material and feeds its natural patina. On a brown colourway, it is advisable to test the cream on a small, discreet area first to ensure it does not alter the tone. Avoid prolonged exposure to rain or direct sunlight.

What sets the brown colourway apart from the other J-21R colours?

Brown is the colourway that best reveals the depth and nuances of the Cow Vintage leather from the very first wear - even before the patina has begun to develop. Its natural ageing is particularly expressive: the raised areas lighten, the hollows deepen, and the jacket gains in character over time. Black plays more on the contrast between dark leather and Dull Silver hardware, while cognac offers a warmer, lighter tone, somewhere between brown and amber.

Caring for your leather

This product is made of cowhide leather. Whether thick and heavy or thin and light, cowhide is one of the most resistant.

Its maintenance simply involves using a cleansing milk or a delicate cream.

You will also need, as with the vast majority of leathers, to waterproof your leather once every 6 months, or more depending on its use, using a special leather aerosol product.

You You can find these products on our maintenance section

In all cases, remember to always test the application of a maintenance product on a non-visible surface of your product. Certain finishes or leather treatments may react differently from one product to another.
