Schott’s 689H NOIR: A Rider’s Jacket with a Story to Tell
This is not just another leather jacket—it’s a piece of motorcycling history, reimagined for those who appreciate quality manufacturing and character. The 689H NOIR is Schott NYC’s nod to the legendary 141, a jacket that has defined the biker aesthetic for decades. Here, the brand refines its heritage with a slightly more streamlined silhouette, while keeping the rugged soul of the original intact. The result? A jacket that balances timeless style with modern wearability, designed to accompany you through seasons and adventures.
The Leather: Horsehide with a Patina That Tells Your Story
At the heart of the 689H NOIR is its horsehide leather—thick, resilient, and built to last. Unlike softer leathers that wear out quickly, horsehide is known for its durability and ability to develop a rich patina over time. This isn’t a leather that stays pristine; it evolves with you, gaining depth and shine with every ride and every wear. The glazed finish gives it an initial lustre, but the real magic happens as the leather ages, moulding to your movements and taking on a unique character that no two jackets will ever share.
Construction: Built for the Road, Designed for Style
Schott hasn’t cut corners with the 689H NOIR. The jacket features a full zip closure made of solid brass, finished in an antique gold tone that adds a touch of vintage elegance. The hardware isn’t just for show—it’s built to withstand the rigours of daily use, whether you’re fastening the jacket against the wind or reaching for your keys in one of the six pockets. Speaking of pockets, the 689H NOIR is equipped with everything you need: a zippered chest pocket for quick access, two zippered hand pockets for secure storage, and a snap-button inner pocket for valuables. The sleeves are finished with zippered cuffs, allowing you to adjust the fit for comfort or style, while two adjustable waist tabs ensure the jacket sits just right, whether you’re on a bike or on foot.
Comfort and Fit: A Jacket That Moves with You
The 689H NOIR is designed with a regular fit, offering enough room to layer over a sweater in cooler months while still maintaining a clean, tailored look. The shirt-style collar adds a touch of versatility, allowing you to wear the jacket open for a relaxed vibe or zipped up for a more polished appearance. Inside, a blend of cotton and polyester lining ensures comfort against the skin, with two inner pockets—one zippered—for added functionality. The jacket is unlined in the sleeves, a detail that keeps the weight down and the mobility high, making it ideal for riding or everyday wear.
Made in the USA: A Commitment to Quality
Like all Schott jackets, the 689H NOIR is proudly made in the USA, a testament to the brand’s dedication to quality manufacturing. This isn’t a jacket that’s rushed off an assembly line—it’s the result of decades of expertise, with every stitch and seam carefully considered. The attention to detail is evident in the way the leather is cut, the precision of the zippers, and the durability of the brass hardware. When you invest in a Schott, you’re not just buying a jacket; you’re buying a piece of American heritage that’s built to last.
Schott NYC is a name synonymous with the leather jacket, a brand that has shaped the way we think about biker style since 1928. Founded by brothers Irving and Jack Schott, the company introduced the world’s first motorcycle jacket—the Perfecto—commissioned by a Harley-Davidson distributor. Since then, Schott has remained a benchmark for quality, quality manufacturing, and timeless design. The 689H NOIR is a perfect example of the brand’s ability to evolve while staying true to its roots, offering a jacket that’s as much at home on the streets of London as it is on the open road.

Frequently Asked Questions
This jacket is made from horsehide leather, known for its thickness and durability. Over time, it develops a unique patina, becoming softer and gaining a distinctive shine that enhances its character.
The sizing follows American standards. To convert to French sizes, add 10 to the US size. The cut is standard, so it’s designed to fit true to size, but consider layering if you plan to wear thick jumpers underneath.
The lining is made from a blend of cotton and polyester and is sewn into the jacket. It provides moderate warmth, making the jacket suitable for most seasons, though it’s not designed for extreme cold.
The brass zippers and fastenings may tarnish over time, especially with exposure to moisture. To maintain their finish, occasionally clean them with a soft cloth and a brass polish if needed.
The jacket features two adjustable tabs at the waist with buckles. These allow you to cinch the jacket slightly for a more fitted look or loosen it for extra comfort.
While the horsehide leather is durable, it’s not fully waterproof. Light rain won’t damage it, but prolonged exposure to heavy rain may cause the leather to darken or stiffen temporarily. A leather protector spray can help.
This model shares the same robust construction and iconic style as the 141 but features a slightly different cut, with a shirt-style collar and additional waist adjustment tabs. The leather finish is also glossier, giving it a distinct retro look.
Caring for your leather
This is a horsehide jacket.
Horsehide is a fairly rare hide. It is found, most of the time, on jacket models exclusively made in the United States such as the historic Schott N.Y.C.
Very thick and above all very resistant, the horse leather models are easy to maintain.
We will still advise you to waterproof them, like any leather jacket, either upon purchase and then at least once every year.
For the purchase of your products maintenance, you can go to our maintenance section.
In all cases, remember to always test the application of a maintenance product on a non-visible surface of your product. Certain finishes or leather treatments may react differently from one product to another.
