Product Description
An offset fastening, and everything follows from it
The asymmetric zip is not an added stylistic effect: it solves a problem. By placing the zipper to the side, it avoids a double layer of leather at the centre of the sternum and frees up a lapel that can fold back widely without interfering with the fastening. The Mavric follows this original logic through to the end, with notched lapels secured by press studs, chest zips set at an angle to follow the line of the front, and zipped lower pockets. Every element comes from a function, not a quotation.
Two looks depending on the fastening
With the zip pulled up and the lapels closed with their press studs, the jacket becomes compact and high-cut, drawing in the torso. With the zip open and the lapels folded back, it broadens, clears the neck and frames the outfit worn underneath. These are two very different silhouettes achieved with the same garment, without adding or removing anything — this explains the longevity of this construction, which has remained virtually unchanged since its appearance in biker wear.
Lambskin on a traditionally rigid design
This construction is traditionally made from thick hides, which require weeks of wear before moulding to the body. Made from supple, lightweight lambskin, the jacket retains its shape but loses that initial stiffness: it drapes properly from the very first outing. The suppleness is particularly beneficial to the lapels, which fold back naturally instead of staying creased, and to the armholes, where movement remains unrestricted.
A specialisation that has never been abandoned
Since its foundation in 1972 by Jürgen Raberg, the company that became Mauritius has worked with just one main material, leather, and one category, clothing. Its name change, from the historic Gipsy to the current Mauritius, marked its fifty years of existence. Katrin and Christian Raberg now run the family business. This focus on a single speciality explains the breadth of the collections, which cover biker jackets, jackets and coats within the same season.
Caring for your leather
This product is made of lambskin. It is the most supple skin among the different types of leather. It is fine, soft and light, and is very easy to maintain!
The only maintenance necessary is waterproofing the material, this should be planned before the first wear of your product and regularly following the frequency with which you wear the product (if you wear it every day in rainy weather, you can repeat it up to once every one to two weeks).
