Ribbed detailing rather than quilting

The Gionna structures its shoulders with ribs—parallel-stitched leather folds—rather than quilted stitching. The difference is clear to the eye: the relief is finer and more closely spaced, emphasizing the shoulder line without widening it, whereas quilting creates volume. On a women's piece, this distinction matters, as it defines the structure of the upper torso without adding bulk. The process also requires supple leather, as each fold must lie flat without breaking.

A collar fastened with two snap buttons

The biker collar is held in place by two overlapping snap buttons rather than just one. The adjustment range is greater: it can be fastened snugly against the wind, or the higher position can be used for a lighter hold. This detail is borrowed from biker jackets, where the collar had to stay in place at speed, and it is immediately visible when the piece is worn closed—two aligned metal points that add rhythm to the top of the garment.

The Mauritius brand

Founded in 1972 by Jürgen Raberg, the company built its identity around a single profession, leather clothing, which it has never abandoned to diversify. Long known as Gipsy, it adopted the name Mauritius for its fiftieth anniversary, bringing its collections together under a single identity. Its lines are now distributed in more than fifty countries, under the direction of Katrin and Christian Raberg. Alongside its main line, the brand develops 2.0 by Mauritius, focused on leathers and textiles with a streetwear influence.
