A tough construction in a soft material
The Nabeela features an asymmetrical zip and notched lapels in suede lambskin, whose sanded surface provides a soft, napped feel and a completely matte appearance. The contrast between the silhouette, borrowed from biker wear, and the material, which belongs to the smartwear category, is what makes the model interesting. The piece retains its sharp design but loses the visual hardness of smooth leather, because the suede absorbs light instead of reflecting it along the edges.
Khaki that reveals the movement of the nap
On suede, the color varies according to the direction in which the nap lies: khaki appears lighter in some areas, deeper in others, and this pattern changes each time a hand passes over the material. This is something smooth leather does not produce, giving a military shade unexpected depth. Khaki also pairs well with ecru, brown and denim, and acts as a warm neutral.
A leopard-print lining
The inside is lined with a leopard print, visible as soon as the jacket is worn open or the lapels are folded back. It is a deliberate counterpoint to the understated khaki and the matte finish of the suede: the outside is discreet, while the inside is not. This type of design choice is not visible in a shop window and only emerges through wear, making it a detail for the woman wearing the piece more than for the person looking at it. The construction remains that of a short biker jacket: offset zip, notched lapels and waist length.
A family business specializing in leather
Founded in 1972 under the name Raberg Ledermoden, the company has remained in the hands of the founding family: Katrin and Christian Raberg, the children of Jürgen Raberg, now run the business. Its rebranding as Mauritius, on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary, replaced the name Gipsy under which it had become known. Leather remains its sole field, from short jackets to long pieces. The group also includes deercraft, a line dedicated to plus sizes with comfortable cuts.
