The MA-1 spirit, recognisable at first glance

This olive bomber takes its lines from the MA-1, the nylon flight jacket worn by American pilots and aircrews in the 1950s. The rib-knit collar, cuffs and hem streamline the silhouette and create the characteristic cropped volume of the bomber. The nylon shell gives the piece a smooth, supple appearance, while the embroidered Top Gun patches immediately establish its aviation identity.

The olive shade recalls the military wardrobe from which the MA-1 originated. The embroidered patches, designed by Top Gun, evoke flight insignia and add dimension to the nylon without altering its streamlined design. Vintage-look leather trims punctuate the jacket and contrast with the textile material.

Details that tell the story of flight wear

The central fastening opens with a propeller-shaped metal zip pull, a signature Top Gun detail. Inside, pockets keep a few personal belongings close at hand. The lining bears a nomination certificate, a nod to the world of air units; its orange tone extends the visual vocabulary of MA-1 flight jackets.

The rib-knit cuffs and waistband keep the openings close to the body and preserve the bomber’s rounded shape. Worn open over a T-shirt, the nylon and patches remain the focus; zipped up over a fine knit, the jacket maintains a clean silhouette. To balance its patches, pair it with plain jeans or understated trousers in denim, grey or black tones.

From the military MA-1 to the Top Gun brand

Top Gun Fashion was founded in 1996 in Queens, New York, around clothing inspired by military heritage and aviation. The name echoes the US Navy’s fighter weapons school, established in 1969 and popularised among the general public by the film Top Gun, released in 1986. This reference can be seen here in the patches and flight details, while the MA-1 shape refers to the history of nylon flight jackets.
